Faculty Status-Requirements and Procedures

General Information

The Institute for the Advancement of Working Families (IAWF) is a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation. IAWF is organized exclusively for charitable, education, religious or scientific purposes within the meaning of section 501© (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

IAWF's focus is as follows:

To study and research, thus educate and train, scholars, policy makers, practitioners, and the corporate profit and non-profit communities regarding 1) successful bio-psycho-social strategies that support and enhance Full Male Development, within the context of the Black family, and across the life cycle; and 2) social and economic challenges faced by youth and young adults, especially African American males, who have or are Aging Out  of Foster Care, and is/was legally committed to the Child Welfare and/or the Juvenile Justice System(s). The end purpose is to establish and support for African American males model milestones for measuring achievement during childhood, adolescent, and adult development.


To realize its mission to support the full development of African American males, as culturally-rooted, self-affirming, and productive members of their family, community and society at large, IAWF requires expertise in a variety of areas, including but not limited to programmatic design and development, curriculum development and training, research, evaluation, skills training, model implementation, and program management. Therefore, members of IAWF faculty are required to make independent, innovative and verifiable contributions in one or more of these areas. Such Contributions are presented in the proposed implementation work plan developed by the applicant, and attached to his/her petition for Faculty Status.


IAWF Faculty


IAWF offers professional association for qualified petitioners who successfully complete the petition process, in one of the following categories: Faculty Associate, Faculty, Senior Faculty, and Distinguish Faculty.

General Qualifications for Faculty Status


Each person desiring to qualify for Faculty Status shall, minimally hold an earned advanced degree from an accredited educational institution*; have a minimum of three (3) years of related professional experience; and successfully complete IAWF's petition process.

*A potential petitioner who holds a baccalaureate degree from an accredited educational institution and has a minimum of ten (10) years of related professional experience may request a waiver of the general educational requirements. Waivers are granted or not granted in the sole discretion of the Board of Directors of IAWF.


Application and Requirements for Faculty Status


Each person desiring to qualify for Faculty Status shall petition IAWF, and submit all information requested, to include:

  1. Completed petition for Faculty Status;

  2. Verification of Education (must be sent directly to IAWF);

  3. Three (3) letters of professional recommendation;

  4. A work sample that demonstrates capability to contribute to IAWF purposes; and

  5. A detail work plan that reflects furtherance of IAWF's purpose and covers, at a minimum, the succeeding twelve (12) month period.

Note: IAWF Board of Directors reserves the right to review, evaluate, and approve or reject all petitions.

Application Time Limits

A petition for Faculty status must be completed within ninety (90) days of the initial submission. Petitions not completed within that time period will be considered rejected.

Designation of Faculty Status

IAWF Board of Directors grants Faculty Status. Faculty Status is granted based on the following terms and conditions:

Faculty Associate-is a temporary designation that is granted in the sole discretion of the President and Principal Investigator of IAWF, with Board approval, on petition from an individual who is the principal investigator on an externally funded project on which IAWF's collaboration is desired. The term of the status extends no longer than the period for which the project is funded.

Faculty-status is granted for a term of one-year, with the option of renewable terms. The review for renewal is based upon continuing qualification, contributions made and commitment demonstrated during the expiring term, as determined by the actions of IAWF's President and Principal Investigator on renewal petitions. Other terms and conditions are contained in appointing documents.

Senior Faculty-status approved and granted at the discretion of IAWF's Board of Directors. Petitioners are required at a minimum to have ten (10) years of related professional experience in a field that contributes to IAWF's mission.

Distinguish Faculty-status designed for scholars and/or practitioners who meets the requirements for appointment as Senior Faculty; and who have published in his or her field of study, is recognized  nationally, if not internationally, and has a record as a funded researcher or practitioner.


Faculty Appointment Renewals


Faculty status is renewable on an annual basis. Renewal is contingent upon continuing qualification, contributions made and commitment demonstrated, as determined by the President and Principal Investigator's action on renewal petitions.

Suspension/Revocation


IAWF reserves the right to suspend or revoke the grant of Faculty Status or to take such lesser action, the sole discretion of the Board of Directors, based on:

  • Prejudicial loss of qualifying credentials (such as a professional license) or adverse action taken by a licensing board or professional association;

  • Failure to perform pursuant to the work plan submitted;

  • Conviction of a felony or misdemeanor; and/or

  • Any behavior that IAWF determines inappropriate for its Faculty.

Resignation

  • All members of the Faculty are free to resign prior to completing their term with IAWF.

  • The resigning faculty member must provide IAWF with a letter of intent to resign ninety (90) days prior to their official or unofficial resignation.

  • Resignations are subject to the terms and conditions of the Faculty status appointment agreement.
